My Why
I created Cody’s Whisper because I believe that at some point, each of us has felt misunderstood or out of place. Yet nature can help us heal, reconnect, and remember who we truly are.
My own journey began after the world shut down. I found myself in a place of overwhelm, burnout, and endless seeking, chasing success, comfort, and distraction. I felt numb and unfulfilled until I returned to the quiet within myself, to the sunshine, the ocean, and the steady rhythm of the natural world. There, I found peace and slowly began to awaken.
As I faced and tended to the hurts I carried from childhood, I thought about my father, a Vietnam veteran who carried deep pain and trauma and how he was always at his best in nature. I remember our camping trips as a family and how peaceful and present he became in those moments.
I also thought of my nephew, a sensitive and beautiful child who struggles to focus in loud, busy classrooms. My father never had the chance to meet him, as he passed away just months before my nephew was born. My hope is that my nephew shares that same love, comfort, and respect for nature that my dad carried.
We all carry wounds, and we live in a noisy, disconnected world. Screens and quick fixes may numb us, but they also steal the peace and wholeness we truly long for.
Nature offers us a way back, calming our nervous systems, slowing us down, and reconnecting us with something greater than ourselves. When we connect with nature, we also learn to care for it, to protect and honor the Earth that holds us all.
The Whisper Way is my invitation to children, parents, and caregivers to come home to this wisdom; to remember their quiet light, and to grow strong and soft, together. May we stay curious and keep alive our sense of wonder, because wonder is how our souls remember why they came here.
I hope you enjoy Cody’s Whisper as much as I enjoyed writing it.
With love,
Malia
