I created Cody’s Whisper because I believe that, at some point, each of us has felt misunderstood, unseen, or out of place. In a world that often encourages us to be strong and push through, many children and adults learn to silence their emotions just to fit in. I wrote this book as a reminder that sensitivity is not a weakness. It is a quiet strength.

After my dad passed away in 2013, I went through a season of grief, overwhelm, and burnout. I tried to outrun the pain by staying busy and chasing comfort, success, and distraction. From the outside, I looked like I was holding it together. On the inside, I felt numb, unfulfilled, and physically run down.

Everything began to change when I slowed down long enough to listen. Spending time outdoors grounded me. The ocean, the sunshine, and the steady rhythm of the natural world helped me soften. In that quiet, I began to feel again and rediscovered my inner voice.

As I worked through the hurts I carried from childhood, I reflected on my father, a Vietnam veteran who carried deep pain and trauma. Yet he was always at his best in nature, especially on our family camping trips. Being outdoors steadied him in a way nothing else could. I wrote this story with him in my heart and with my nephew in mind, a sensitive child navigating an overstimulated world. My hope is that he grows up knowing his sensitivity is something to honor, not hide.

We live in a noisy, distracted world that pulls us away from ourselves. Nature gently calls us back. It steadies us, softens us, and reminds us who we are.

Cody’s Whisper is my invitation to slow down, trust what you feel, and raise children who know they belong exactly as they are. The Whisper Way exists to help families grow strong and soft together while deepening their connection to the natural world.
